POLICY PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION The University of Wyoming is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination.  No employee, applicant for employment or student will be treated differently because of age, race, religion, color, disability, sex, national origin or sexual orientation.  This policy applies to all educational programs, employment opportunities and program activities and services and every member of the University community has a responsibility for preventing discrimination.  I had a hell of a time finding this statement.  There is a SafeZone program, but nowhere in the SafeZone materials is the non-discrimination policy stated. There is a Rainbow Resource Center website, although I'm not sure there is an actual physical LGBT resource center.   Wyoming state law restricts marriage to one man and one woman and lacks any law that would recognize same-sex relationships, marriages, civil unions, or holy unions (source:  HRC maps).   Oklahoma State University, Stillwater   Office of Equal Opportunity statement:  OSU provides equal employment and educational opportunity on the basis of merit and in a manner which does not discriminate because of an individual's race, gender, national or ethnic origin, color, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status.   Oklahoma has a constitutional amendment restricting marriage to one man and one woman, and, like Wyoming, lacks any law that would recognize same-sex relationships, marriages, civil unions, or holy unions (source:  HRC maps).   To offset some of the drawbacks to living in one of the most conservative Red States in the U.S., Stillwater has a Senior Cohousing Community, Oakcreek Community, completely built with only one unit currently available and a waiting list.  The only down side I can see to this community is its location at the dam end of Boomer Lake; which means that if the lake floods, the overflow will spill into the small residential area just south of the lake in which the cohousing development was built. Stillwater (Payne County) went for McCain (63%) and Romney (64%) in 2008 and 2012, which means that Obama received 37% and 36% of the vote, respectively, in those election years (source:  citydata.com).  In addition, instead of German Catholics, Southern Baptists and fundamentalist evangelicals are the majority in Oklahoma and in Arkansas.     Northeastern State University, Tahlequah   There does not seem to be a multicultural course or a course that addresses diversity in the entire teacher education program.  If there is one, I cannot find it.  Even if a Cherokee student is studying Cherokee education, there is a need to understand where the Cherokee Nation fits into the dominant White Supremacist culture.   NSU FACULTY COUNCIL ANTI-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT
The Faculty Council of Northeastern State University condemns conduct that is founded in prejudice or hate. No discrimination on the grounds of race, ethnicity, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/variances, age, religion, language background, socio-economic status, disability or status as a veteran will exist in the Faculty Council or practiced in any business it conducts. Under no circumstances does the Faculty Council find any form of harassment acceptable and will not tolerate it in the conduct of its affairs. (approved for Faculty Council and recommended for all student/faculty relationships)   Sparrow Hawk Village has home sites for sale.  There is a new Chapel of Christ Sophia along with the LCCC.  Carol Parrish has become a more traditional bishop; a Thomasine Christian (of the liberal catholic church lineage) and she is ordaining people in that lineage.     University of Central Arkansas, Conway   PRISM is the university organization for queer students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Office of Diversity and Community at the University of Central Arkansas is the premier office for diversity and inclusion within the Bear community.  We take pride in serving our LGBTQI students and supporting the affirmation of all students and their identities.  Our goal is to foster support for all members of our community, and to provide supportive resources for faculty, staff, students, and alumni in our efforts to create an inclusive and safe community. The Diversity and Community teams provide advocacy and support for all of our LGBTQI students, registered student organizations, and all related activities.

East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina

Lots of turnover at East Carolina University.  Searching for "anti-discrimination" on their website brings up a bunch of PDFs where it looks like faculty have addressed discrimination in their scholarly work.  No anti-discrimination policy for the university located yet.  ESU is a public, four-year or above, public, doctoral/research university similar to Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.  North Carolina passed a same-sex marriage ban in the summer of 2012.  However, there are advocacy centers (student services support centers) at North Carolina State University (NCSU) campuses, the land grant university for the state of North Carolina, Appalachian State University, and at Wake Forest University.

There is an LGBT Resource Office at ESU and they offer academic courses, but the website has not been updated since the summer of 2011.

ESU is part of the University of North Carolina system.

Saint Cloud University, St. Cloud, Minnesota

If there were an example job announcement, I would love to see, it is this one:

St. Cloud University is on the consortium map, and they are looking for probationary/tenure-track individuals, which means as I am finishing my dissertation, I might be considered.  Minnesota citizens recently defeated a same-sex marriage ban in conjunction with the presidential election in November, 2012, but only by a 51% margin.  Still, I am counting five (5) universities or colleges in Minnesota on the consortium map (meaning they have resource centers or advocates of some kind).

St. Cloud's School of Education has a department of Human Relations and Multicultural Education (HURL); with some very intriguing characteristics and departmental objectives.

Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Valley State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Social Foundations of Education. Position begins in August 2013.  Applicants must have a doctorate in Social Foundations or closely related field, with demonstrated ability to teach educational research methods. Candidates must demonstrate potential for teaching, scholarship and service to the college, profession and community.

Michigan has a constitutional amendment (passed in 2004) that bans civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.  But GVSU has a resource center ( http://www.gvsu.edu/lgbtrc/ ) and it appears to be a member of the consortium.  

A portion of the anti-harassment policy at GVSU is as follows:

Harassment on the basis of age, color, disability, familial status, height, marital status, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex/gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, or weight is considered a violation of university policy.

St. Cloud University's non-discrimination policy is very similar, but includes only sexual orientation, along with the federally mandated categories.

USF is a Catholic, Jesuit, urban university.  Interesting!  Here is their non-discrimination policy:

There are courses listed on LGBT cinema and there are news stories about LGBT alumni, but no LGBT Center.  USF does not seem to be a member of the Consortium for Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals.

Ohio State University includes sexual orientation and gender identity in its non-discrimination statement.  In addition, there are several AERA colleagues at OSU and others in the state.  Ohio limits marriage to one man, one woman.

Ohio University includes sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in its non-discrimination statement.  The LGBT Center is well-established.  They want more experience than I currently have; but this position has a focus on teaching and curricular development that you don't find in some of these positions.

Indiana

IUB is a member of the Consortium for Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals (http://www.indiana.edu/~glbt/), the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Student Support Services Office under the Division of Student Affairs.

Otherwise, I was unable to find any additional faculty openings lists, even though everywhere I went there was the statement that each administrative unit handles their own faculty openings separately from the Indiana University system.

Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
Purdue is not a member of the Consortium.  However, Purdue does include gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression in its non-discrimination statement.  Purdue is the land-grant institution for Indiana, while IUB is the non-land-grant public institution.  See the post "Consortium jobs March 3" for additional information on Purdue University.


And now for the bad news about Indiana.  Indiana has DOMA legislation.

Oberlin's Multicultural Resource Center is a member of the Consortium.  Oberlin received five stars from the Campus Climate survey in August, 2010.
